Description
The Beer Pot is part of the Zulu Collection which was designed and created in collaboration with Porcupine Rocks who showcase modern African design.
The Beer Pot takes it’s inspiration from the traditional handcrafted beer pot in which Zulu women brewed their ‘umqoumbothi’ beer. This piece is a modern twist on the Zulu beer pot, hand thrown on the wheel and then decorated with the sgraffito technique of cutting into the clay to create a pattern on the pot before it’s final glaze.
This piece comes with a drum shaped shade in the Porcupine Rocks’ ‘Veld’ fabric which illustrates the ‘Valley of a Thousand Hills’ – The Heart of Zululand. Shown here in the burnt orange colourway.
The Zulu Collection was created in collaboration with Porcupine Rocks, inspiration was drawn from tribal heritage, engravings, ceremonial masks and African flora and fauna. Each table lamp was designed to marry up with particular fabrics from the Porcupine Rocks collection, great care being taken with the finishes and glazes of both the sculptural and ceramic pieces so they complement the fabrics.
Height to top of lamp base 33cm. Width of lamp base at widest point 33cm. Total height of both lamp and shade 65cm (dimensions are approximate as these are hand thrown pieces)
