Description
The Java table lamp is part of the Sgrafitto Collection. The word sgraffito comes from the Italian graffiare, meaning “to scratch” and it is one of the most expressive decorative techniques in ceramics. The lamp has a hand cut sgraffito pattern of dots around the belly of the pot, which act like a horizon line with tension. It divides the vessel into zones while adding movement.
The surface has a quality unlike any painted decoration, it has crisp edges, ridges, and a slight three-dimensionality
Shown here in Olive Green, the colour emerging as a “modern neutral”. The lamp has a pattern you can both see and feel, which makes sgraffito so beautiful.
The pieces are thrown on the wheel and the sgraffito pattern hand cut. The making of which is a handcrafted process, every piece is slightly different and unique. Each table lamp is a piece of collectable design.
Height to top of lamp base 33cm. Width of lamp base at widest point 33cm. Total height of both lamp and shade 65cm (dimensions are approximate as these are hand thrown pieces)
The table lamp is hand thrown on a wheel, no two pieces will be exactly the same, if you wish to order a pair, we will ensure they are identical.
Customisation Possibilities It is possible to have this design in other colours.
This is a handmade product with hand mixed glazes, small irregularities are expected and part of the character of the piece.
